Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate

A safe and healthy home (13/12/2011)

Christmas donation from Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate

The Yayasan Panti Asuhan Rahmat orphanage in Makassar, Indonesia, houses some 80 children. Many of them have no parents. A few have parents who are too poor to care for their children on their own.

The home was founded with donations from individuals, who provided a building and basic supplies. But much still remains to be done.

The Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate Christmas donation for 2011 will support the children of Yayasan Panti Asuhan Rahmat. With the help of our colleagues in Makassar, the building will be renovated to become a safe and healthy home. The third floor will be redesigned and finished, all stairs will be replaced, the bathrooms will be renovated and the interior walls will be repaired and painted to make the orphanage a more cheerful and comfortable place to live.

Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate has operated a bean sourcing, drying and storage facility in Makassar, on the island of Sulawesi, since 1995 and recently announced plans to build a new cocoa processing plant and establish farmer training programs in Indonesia as well. Supporting the communities where we live and work is important to us, and we are happy to make this contribution to children’s future.
